Please join us on Saturday and Sunday, June 20th and 21st for a World Refugee Day event!

Beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday and ending each day at 6 p.m., we offer ethnic food, music, dance, arts and crafts and story-telling by people who are refugees living in this city.  We will also offer hayride tours of our fields and special activities for children.

Strawberries season is over.  There are no more berries to be picked nor in the market.

Sugar Snap Peas (eat the shell and the seed inside raw with a dip, in salads, stir-fried as in Oriental dishes, or cooked much like a green bean), English peas (to be shelled so that the seed is eaten), and snow peas (eat the shell and the seed inside; most often seen in Oriental dishes) are available to pick at our East Raymond Street market.  They are also available in our market.

Leaf lettuce grown by the Karen farmers from Burma is also available to pick at our Raymond Street farm.  It is available in the market there as well.

New at Waterman's Farm Market in 2009!

We are making land available to refugee farmers of the Karen nation from Burma.  It is our hope that being reconnected with the earth will facilitate a rekindling of their identity as farmers and will enable them to earn greater independence in this country. The Karen farmers will be producing vegetables that are typical of the American diet as well as some that are more likely to be found in an Asian diet.  We will be providing the land and the mechanical inputs and the Karen farmers will be providing the hand labor.  Their vegetables will be marketed at Waterman's Farm Market as well as at  some farmers markets in the Indianapolis area.  Your support in this endeavor will be greatly appreciated.

"A Refugee is a person who "owing to well-founded fear of being persecuted for reason of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group, or political opinion, is outside the country of [their] nationality, and is unable to or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail [themselves] of the protection of that country." - Defintions & Obligations

On June 20 & 21, we will be recognizing World Refugee Day with food, music, dance, and Arts & Crafts of refugee cultures. For participation information contact Lisa at 317-626-0520.
